The Material Specialist role

The Material Specialist is part of a team consisting of a tool specialist, a production engineer, a measuring specialist, and a process specialist. This role is key in supporting customer-specific projects and improvement projects and will advise on plastic material selection for primary packaging in pharmaceuticals.

Areas of consideration could include bio sensitivity, product stability, shelf-time sensitivity, appropriate thickness and barrier properties of plastics, and UV protection. All while adhering strictly to pharmaceutical regulatory standards and the customer’s requirements for product modifications.

You will be expected to take on a consultative role, investigate and research areas, and be technically curious about specifications and requirements, quickly learning and bridging on any relevant experience you have.

You will participate in projects from initiation, technical scoping, and feasibility to developing a profitable business case, supporting the Project Development Manager. You will also be involved with researching and selecting raw material suppliers and liaising with Gerresheimer Global Innovation Center for technical support.

A relevant background in understanding materials’ composition and properties and a willingness to learn and grow more professionally are key for this role.

The Material Specialist will report to the Project Development Manager.

Area of responsibility

  • Address and resolve customer technical inquiries, focusing on the selection of plastic materials and their impact on product functionality.
  • Provide expert advice on the compatibility, performance, and usage of plastic materials, responding to customer needs and specifications.
  • Analyze and recommend solutions to enhance product performance and customer satisfaction through optimal material selection.
  • Contribute to the customer and improvement projects in the sites in DK.
  • Participating in developing strong business cases and project plans for new projects based on customer expectations and company capabilities.
  • Contribute to project meetings to ensure project progress in your area.
  • Participate in design enhancements in design and material usage.
  • Give technical support on an ad hoc basis concerning any operational and quality issues internally and externally.

Ideal candidate profile

  • Relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in material science, chemical engineering, or similar.
  • Possesses some technical understanding of the properties and processing of materials, including. plastics such as polymers, composites, and material science in general.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is an advantage; however, it is not a prerequisite.
  • Experience with ISO/GMP is an advantage, however, not a prerequisite.
  • Extrovert and collaborate across the organization.
  • Comfortable with making decisions and finding solutions.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues to people with a non-technical background.
  • Commercial and customer understanding.
  • Good skills in understanding, speaking, and writing English.
  • Hold a valid work and residence permit for Denmark.
