The role

You take ownership of the system and software layers as Product Owner, focusing on cybersecurity, system integrity, and architectural coherence across a complex platform spanning Windows, Linux, databases, virtualization, deployment, and integration. In this context, you contribute to the cybersecurity programme for the Platinum platform by translating IEC 62443 requirements into practical, real-world solutions.

The programme aims to bring a legacy-heavy maritime control system through a structured maturity journey (SL1–SL3) towards compliance with IEC 62443-3-3. This requires translating high-level security standards into practical solutions within a distributed, real-time, safety-critical, and hardware-dependent environment. The programme is structured in three main stages: SL1, currently in post-type approval and progressing into product maturation; SL1+ (SL1 with selected higher-level security elements), currently in the requirements phase with some activities already initiated; and SL3, currently in the requirements phase and expected to progress through type approval and further maturation.

A key challenge is implementing cybersecurity without compromising stability or operations. Systems are deployed on active vessels with no tolerance for disruption, meaning solutions must support continuous operation rather than ideal-state redesign. The programme includes dependencies on shared platform components with the Navigation domain, which operates under a different standard (IEC 62460), requiring coordination across systems and organisations.

You drive progress across teams by aligning Product Management, R&D, and PMO and translating requirements into a prioritised backlog. The role operates in a matrix organisation with broad stakeholder collaboration across NACOS Marine. You will be part of the Automation R&D team in Hørsholm, working closely with Product Management, Navigation R&D, Service, and Field Engineering. Delivery is aligned with the Programme Manager, with a functional reporting line to the R&D Manager, Christoffer Schrøder, and close collaboration with the R&D Manager, Thomas Junker.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the cybersecurity backlog for the NACOS Automation platform, ensuring structured execution from requirements through development, testing, deployment, and commissioning.

  • Own and operate an effective Product Owner process across stakeholders, ensuring clear prioritisation, alignment, and progress across deliveries.

  • Translate product, contract, and cybersecurity requirements into clear, actionable priorities, balancing effort, cost, risk, and operational constraints in collaboration with Product Management and technical leads.

  • Ensure alignment between requirements, testing, and quality by defining clear, testable outcomes together with test and engineering teams.

  • Drive milestone progress, release coordination, and transparency across teams in collaboration with PMO, R&D, and Product Management.

  • Act as the key interface between stakeholders, ensuring alignment across Product Management, R&D, and development teams in a cross-functional setup.

  • Manage trade-offs between cybersecurity, system stability, and operational constraints, ensuring solutions are implementable in a live maritime environment.

  • Contribute to improving structure, processes, and coordination across the organisation to enable more scalable and predictable delivery.

Profile

This is a senior role requiring experience with complex systems and long product lifecycles. You must be able to work persistently over time, handle resistance, and drive progress in a challenging environment with significant technical legacy and regulatory constraints.

The role requires comfort with the fact that not everything can be modernised quickly, and that technical debt must be managed rather than eliminated, as we are dealing with critical infrastructure.

Ideally, you are motivated by taking ownership of a high-impact programme within a complex product landscape, driving execution and creating structure.

Hard skills

  • Product Owner experience or similar roles in technically complex, system-oriented environments.
  • Experience working with complex system products combining software, hardware, and deployment.
  • Strong understanding of system-level architecture, legacy systems, integration, and long product lifecycles.
  • Experience with non-cloud-centric environments, including PC-based software, system integration, deployment, and commissioning.
  • Ability to translate requirements into clear priorities and assess technical consequences, cost, risk, and trade-offs.
  • Proven experience with structured development processes, governance, and decision frameworks.
Experience collaborating closely with architects, developers, testers, and Product Management.
  • Preferably experience from OT or other regulated, system-critical environments.
Experience in a comparable system, technical ownership, or senior delivery roles.

Soft skills

  • Trustworthy, pragmatic, and quality-driven – friendly, yet firm when needed.
  • Able to stand firm under pressure and push things forward despite resistance.
  • Comfortable driving change in environments with legacy, ambiguity, and organisational complexity.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills across technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Process-oriented, structured, and disciplined in execution.
  • Mentally robust and patient, with the resilience to drive long-term transformation.
  • Motivated by ownership of a clearly defined programme and its outcomes, and taking responsibility for driving progress and long-term impact within that scope.
