The Electronic Engineer role

This role focuses on developing analog and power electronics for advanced laser modules used in early-stage quantum and defense systems. You will work on standalone modules that integrate into larger, mission-critical platforms, and not complete end-user products. Many projects are confidential and part of an expanding collaboration with the defense sector. Some products may become classified, and the organizational security level is increasing accordingly.

Prior experience with lasers or quantum applications is not required, as this is a niche field, and we fully expect a learning curve. What matters is a solid foundation in analog design and power electronics and the ability to solve complex engineering problems using structured and analytical thinking and strong mathematical skills.

You will join a technically strong, cross-disciplinary team of 26 engineers working across hardware, firmware, mechanics, and procurement.

You will report to Thomas Holm, Team Leader, Electronics – https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-holm-370a233/

Key tasks

  • Design and develop regulation circuits and high-precision analog electronics for advanced laser modules, from early prototyping to integration in customer solutions for quantum and defense applications.
  • Contribute to cross-disciplinary development projects with a creative and explorative mindset, helping define technical solutions, system architecture, and platform strategies.
  • Analyze and optimize system performance, including electromagnetic behavior, noise mitigation, and PCB layout.
  • Perform hands-on measurement, debugging, and verification using advanced lab equipment and simulation tools to ensure functional and stable designs.
  • Support compliance and production readiness through documentation, qualification (UL, CE, EMC), and structured handover processes.

Ideal candidate profile

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Power Systems, or related field.
  • Experience with power supply design, including high-current/voltage systems and thermal/magnetic considerations.
  • Familiarity with control loop theory and analog signal processing.
  • Hands-on expertise with measurement, debugging, and testing of analog electronics, including filtering and noise management.
  • Experience with magnetics, switching regulators, and power amplifier design.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience optimizing designs for manufacturability.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality and reliability.
  • Good teamwork skills, capable of working effectively with various engineering and project teams to achieve successful solutions.
  • English – both oral and written (English is used throughout the organization for daily communication).
  • Living in the Copenhagen area and have a valid work & resident permit for Denmark.

What NKT Photonics Offer

  • Being part of an experienced team that values open-minded collaboration and is not afraid to challenge each other to build better results.
  • Being part of a highly creative and experimental environment that embraces a “build-as-we-go” mindset within a structured company framework.
  • Contributing to groundbreaking solutions where stretching the limits of creativity and technology is part of everyday development.
  • Working on technologies used for atom manipulation in vacuum chambers and classified defense applications.
  • Thrive in a culture that celebrates both professional excellence and individual passions.
